Zlapped: Hi guys, and welcome to episode 41. Today’s question is by Werdsworth.
Werdswerth asks, “Was HoN your first MOBA? How quickly after playing HoN for the first time did you progress to 1800 and above? Did your aptitude for the game come naturally, or did you have friends who taught you to play?”
Heroes of Newerth was indeed my first MOBA, my friends and I were playing Counterstrike 1.6 and World of Warcraft. One day, we were at a LAN party in my friend’s basement. We were six of us. And on the 1.6 website we were playing, and they gave away free beta keys for Heroes of Newerth. We were all like, “You know, fuck it, let’s try it out.”
So we downloaded the beta keys, we started playing each other, and that night was my first HoN game. I played Valkyrie. And later on, during the day, we kept playing of course – it was LAN. I ended up 1v4ing them with Bloodhunter in like, my fifth game or so, just really not understanding how I grasped the game as quick as I did back then. Within a few months, I was over 2,100 PR, my highest being 2,124 back in the beta. And I was one of the top ranked players on the ladder in the beginning of the game.
No one actually knew me – I went by the nickname “Nix0r” back then with a zero, and yeah. I picked up the game very fast, it was my first MOBA. Self taught, but I did use the replay system and streams a lot. I watched a lot of Chu, a lot of his replays, streams alike as well as replays.
And overall, yeah. It just came naturally.
