Zlapped: Hi guys, and welcome to episode 19. Today’s question is from Deep. Deep asks, “Do you think HoN (Heroes of Newerth) needs more attention in eSports?”
Yes, I do believe that HoN needs more attention in eSports. But, at the same time, they don’t really have the funds or the money to market the game right now.
And, if we’re looking at it, there is so much competition in the MOBA market right now with the Smite, with League of Legends, with the new games coming out, with DotA of course, that will Heroes of Newerth really be able to get that much more attention in eSports? I’m not saying give up, but I’m saying it’s going to be very hard to get more attention in eSports. And also, because going to events such as DreamHack and other events is very very expensive, and it costs a lot of money. And I don’t really think that it’s worth to actually put all of that money into advertising these events because I don’t think there will be enough of a following or viewers or people showing up at these events to make it worth it.
What I do think, however, is that marketing the game online or in interviews or finding big Youtubers to do the game, that could probably be a better way of doing it, and then go back to the events, because I don’t currently think that the events will be worth it from a monetary perspective. It’s going to just be throwing money away, really. And that is the honest truth and what I think.
However, of course, in Thailand the game is huge, there are events all the time, it’s being covered by media, and it gets a lot of attention. But I’m talking in the EU here. But yes, I do hope and I do wish that HoN got more attention in eSports, for sure. I do think something has to be done in order to do that, but I don’t think events is the way to go. It would more so be online marketing, media, interviews, newspapers, and stuff like that and not the expensive ways of events and other things like that.
